Hi Zack,
When I first started out in BikeTrials, I bought an ECHO Pure 26". The BB was quite high on the 26" and therefore the center of gravity higher. Thus more difficult to track-stand and balance when compared to a 20" or a 24".
I am 5ft 11inches, pretty tall and big size (that time, I was 85kg, now only 80kg.. :-).
After training on the 26" for a couple of months, I tried out a 20" and found out that the size was smaller and much more easier to handle. This was especially true during the beginning when we just started learning the basic stuff like balancing (track-stand, rear wheel hop, extending, etc.).
Whenever I am trying to learn a new skill or technique, I prefer to use the 20". So much more easier to practice and learn.
So if you ask me, I would definitely say start out with a 20" or in your case a 24"... really depends on what your goal is... :-)
If you can afford it, go for this bike.. the Monty Kamel 231
Of course Echo, Koxx and Neon are popular brands as well... i.e. all just a matter of budget. Quality parts make a huge difference in the pricing.
For me, my budget would be SGD1000 or less, preferably second-hand so that I can really trash the bike... LOL. But I would make sure I have a good set of front disc brakes and really sticky rear wheel rim brakes.
